The exciting encounter began on a cautious note for both sides as they pushed for the crucial opener inside the opening ten minutes of the match. With Nasarawa United looking to head into half time break with 1-0 lead, the Promise Keepers levelled the scores through top scorer Mfon Udoh when he calmly converted a spot kick after Abdullahi Abubarkar handled Ndifreke Effiong’s shot in the box.
The home side went in front in first half stoppage time through U-23 defender Etboy Akpan. The youngster lashed on to a rebound after Ndifreke Effiong’s effort came off the post and landed in front of an onrushing Etboy Akpan whose shot went through the legs of Galadima and into the back of the net.
Both sides stepped up their game in the second half and created plethora of chances but failed to convert them. But it was Akwa United that had more opportunities to increase their tally but some brilliant goalkeeping by Mohammed Galadima and some terrible misses most notably from Mfon Udoh and Ndifreke Effiong ensured the crucial game ended 2-1 in favour of the home side.
